50 Years on the Chapman Stick at the Arizona Presenters Alliance

“50 Years on the Chapman Stick” presented at the Arizona Presenters Alliance, August 12, 2026.

On August 12, 2026, I presented “50 Years on the Chapman Stick: Music, Storytelling & Creative Discovery” at the Arizona Presenters Alliance conference at the Sedona Hilton at Bell Rock.

The presentation combined live Chapman Stick music with stories from my musical journey, which began in 1976, when I first discovered the instrument and started studying with its inventor, Emmett Chapman.

My goal was to give presenters a sense of what a full Chapman Stick program can offer: music, humor, history, personal stories and the excitement of discovering an instrument most people have never seen before.

As I approach my 50th anniversary of playing the Chapman Stick in December 2026, I’m developing this program for performing arts centers, community concert series, libraries and other venues looking for something genuinely different.

My thanks to the Arizona Presenters Alliance for the opportunity to share the music, the story and the instrument with presenters from across Arizona.

“Discovery” is at the heart of the program—the experience of encountering an instrument most audiences have never seen before.
